THE INVISIBLE MAGNET
Make their hands move together without touching them.

WHAT THEY SEE
Their hands begin drifting towards each other as if an invisible magnetic force is pulling them together. The strongest reaction usually comes when they realise the movement has started before they consciously decided to move.

WHAT YOU SAY
Hold your hands out in front of you, palms facing each other, about this far apart.
Now imagine there is a powerful magnet in the centre of each palm. You do not have to help it. Just notice that strange little pull beginning between your hands.
The closer they get, the stronger those magnets become... stronger now... until the hands simply want to come together.
That’s it. Let it happen.

HOW TO DO IT
- Ask permission and have them sit or stand comfortably, with their shoulders relaxed.
- Position their hands roughly 20–30 cm apart, palms facing each other and fingers loose rather than rigid.
- Ask them to look at the space between the palms, not at you. This gives their attention one clear place to settle.
- Introduce the magnet idea slowly. Give them a few seconds to imagine the pull rather than rushing straight into more instructions.
- Watch for the first tiny sign of response — a fingertip twitch, a slight change in wrist angle or the hands beginning to drift inward.
- The moment you see movement, reinforce what is already happening: ‘That’s it — you can feel that pull getting stronger now.’
- As the gap becomes smaller, reduce the amount you say. Let the visible movement become the demonstration.
- When the hands meet, pause for a beat, then release cleanly with: ‘And relax — shake your hands out.’

MAKE IT LOOK RIDICULOUSLY GOOD
THE SHOWMAN’S EDGE
01Stand slightly to one side so other people can clearly see both hands and the shrinking gap between them.
02Before you begin, briefly show the starting distance with your own hands. It makes the later movement easier for the audience to appreciate.
03Do not stare at their hands like you are waiting and hoping. Behave as though the response is completely expected.
04The instant movement starts, slow your voice down and slightly lower the volume. That tiny shift makes the moment feel more important.
05Once the hands are obviously moving, allow two or three seconds of silence. Silence lets everyone notice that the effect is continuing without your help.
06When the hands meet, do not immediately talk over the reaction. Give them a second to look surprised.
07Do not explain the psychology afterwards. Smile, release them, and move on while the reaction is still fresh.
Keep the arms in a comfortable position and stop immediately if they feel any discomfort.
